The Independent Order of Odd Fellows developed in the Baltimore, in 1817, thanks to Thomas Wildey. Wildey had joined the Odd Fellows in England, but due to the War of 1812, he found that a new, American branch was needed. He and four other men would found the group, based upon the club Wildey was a member of in England, but with a completely independent system of governance. The Odd Fellows could go on to become the largest fraternal body in the US. Today, they Odd Fellows are much smaller, but many Lodges still meet in towns across the country, with their natiaonal headquarters located in Winston-Salem, NC.
Hailing from Agency Lodge No. 505, located in Buchanan, Missouri, this fez shows that even the basic Odd Fellows Lodge was not immune to the fez craze that swept fraternal groups in the 20th century.
